Peloton Acquires Connected Pilates Company Skōp

Peloton has acquired connected Pilates technology company Skōp, strengthening its investment in Pilates as the fitness giant looks to expand its strength training and wellness ecosystem.

The acquisition brings Skōp's technology and Pilates expertise into Peloton's research and development team, supporting the company's efforts to further develop its at-home Pilates offering and broader wellness platform.

According to Peloton CEO Peter Stern, Pilates presents a significant opportunity for innovation within connected fitness.

"Pilates is a category ripe for the same kind of experiential reinvention we brought to cardio," Stern said. "Form is everything in Pilates, so we are taking a purposeful approach to ensure we develop the most effective, safest, and fun experiences possible - ones people will keep doing for life."

Peloton said the acquisition will play a key role in the continued expansion of its strength ecosystem, where the company has been investing heavily in both product development and instructor talent.

The move comes as Pilates continues to experience strong growth globally. Peloton reported that member engagement with its Pilates content increased 48 per cent year-over-year during the third quarter alone.

Industry data also points to sustained momentum for the modality. The Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) recently identified Pilates as the fastest-growing fitness activity in the United States, with participation increasing by almost 40 per cent in recent years. Google search trends similarly show Pilates has become the third most searched fitness activity behind only running and yoga.

For Peloton, the acquisition reinforces a broader strategy to position itself as a leader in connected fitness and wellness, while further cementing Pilates as a key pillar within its long-term growth plans.

The company said welcoming Skōp underscores its commitment to developing innovative wellness experiences that help people live "fit, strong, long and happy" lives.

Skōp may already be familiar to some Pilates professionals, having showcased its connected Pilates technology at The Pilates Journal Expo in Los Angeles earlier this year.
