Why the Australian Census Matters for Pilates

The Pilates Association Australia (PAA) is encouraging Pilates professionals to complete their 2026 Australian Census accurately, saying the data will help build a clearer picture of the profession's size and contribution to health and wellbeing.

The PAA has published a guide to help instructors and studio owners identify the most appropriate occupation categories when completing the Census on 11 August.

According to PAA President Kimberley Garlick, stronger participation could help improve recognition of the profession and provide better data to inform future advocacy and industry planning.

“By completing your Census accurately, you're helping to build a clearer picture of our industry. Every response contributes to stronger data, better recognition, and a more informed understanding of the valuable role Pilates professionals play in the health and wellbeing of Australians,” said Kimberley.

Australian Pilates professionals can access the Census guide via the PAA website here.
